TEConomy works primarily in the U.S., but also has projects from time-to-time across the globe, serving a diverse set of clients, including universities, governments, economic development agencies, industry, trade associations, and non-profit institutions. While these clients are diverse, they all share a common need to understand and navigate the innovation economy. TEConomy's client engagements focus around issues such as:

    Qualifications Required:
    Strategic thinkers with at least 5 years of experience being involved in performing and managing complex projects in innovation/economic development, public policy, or planning. Successful candidates will have a master's degree in economics, public policy, geography, urban planning, STEM-related discipline, or other related field, or will have at least 5 years of consulting experience in a related position. The candidate should possess a record of relevant work experience as well as a firm grounding in innovation/economic development or a related discipline.

    Candidates will be able to demonstrate:

    • Excellent written and verbal communication skills.
    • Ability to work in a collaborative, virtual, team environment.
    • Aptitude to come up to speed quickly on unfamiliar subject matter.
    • Knowledge in the innovation space of economic development.
    • Understanding of how to translate research results into client deliverables.
    • Some experience in managing tasks within a large, complex project or managing smaller efforts.
    • Must be able to travel overnight up to 30 percent annually for client and business development meetings.

    Qualifications Preferred:
    Strong candidates will possess at least some of the following attributes:

    • Experience in writing for a broad economic development audience.
    • Ability to effectively present and communicate data analyses through the use of data visualization tools and other presentation techniques.
    • Applied data analysis skills, including the use of publicly available data, survey development and administration, and use of other third-party data sources.
    • Interest and experience in areas such as venture development, technology commercialization, place-making, research infrastructure, and emerging technologies.
