Director of Workforce Services Operations – Henrico
The Virginia Employment Commission (
VEC) announces an exciting employment opportunity, and invites applications to fill the vital agency position of Director of Workforce Services Operations. This position is a valuable member of the Commissioner’s executive leadership team, and functions in an executive leadership capacity providing overall strategic direction and management of Workforce Services. The primary function of Workforce Services is to focus on employment opportunities and assist Virginia’s employers in hiring qualified job seekers to fill their open positions. As such, this leadership role will be charged with the direction of six districts across the Commonwealth (to include 39 office locations), the Jobs for Veterans State Grant (
JVSG) program, and the Rapid Response Program. The successful candidate will coordinate employment assistance operations and programs effectively across all districts , as well as coordinate and collaborate with external workforce partners. The Director of Workforce Services Operations has both strategic and operational leadership components, and accordingly, the selected candidate will be able to lead a high-performing team to deliver innovative solutions for Virginia’s job seekers and employers.
This position reports to the Deputy Commissioner of Workforce Services, and collaborates closely with the Chief Deputy, District Managers, Veterans Program Manager, and Rapid Response staff and partners to develop and implement consistent training, policies and procedures, and resources for field and central office operations. Additionally, the Director manages statewide program activities and administrative functions (such as strategic management, resource allocation, human resource and performance management, operations, customer relations, information technology and database management, legislation and regulatory compliance, employer outreach and job services, grants management and budget, and mandatory reporting) to ensure consistent and timely services are provided and are in compliance with established rules and regulations.
Additional duties of this position include:
Serves as a liaison to the Virginia Board of Workforce Development, business communities, and employers by providing support to create a strong workforce aligned with employer needs.
Promotes agency services and programs while also conducting employer outreach and training.
Makes presentations and serves on committees, boards, panels, etc.
Reviews data in the Virginia Workforce Connection to ensure it is up-to-date, appropriate, and complies with established requirements, and ensures the system is operating smoothly and meeting business needs.
Identifies trends and evaluates program performance.
