The Maryland Department of Commerce is seeking qualified applicants for Director of Foreign Direct Investment within its Office of International Investment and Trade (OIIT) within the Division of Business and Industry Sector Development. This position reports directly to the Senior Director of the Office of International Investment & Trade (OIIT). The primary responsibilities include supporting OIIT in international activities, specifically, administration of programs to attract Foreign Direct Investment (FDI) to Maryland and promoting the state as an investment destination. The position will implement and oversee a variety of programs and contracts related to the broader mission of investment attraction and advise on promotion and marketing strategies. This position directly supervises the Global Gateway Program Manager and will manage lead generation contractors for Europe, Canada, and Japan that are not state employees. This position will also manage the state’s SelectUSA Summit participation and represent the OIIT at various other international events. Some travel will be required as well as attendance at national and international events.

The selected candidate will possess excellent interpersonal skills to work with high-level public, private sector, and international officials and maintain effective working relationships; excellent written and oral communication skills; the ability to handle multiple, concurrent and high priority projects and possess proficiency with the Microsoft Office Suite, Google Mail, Salesforce and/or other relevant software. Some statewide travel is required; as is, this position represents the OIIT at international events, committee meetings, and various working groups related to the OIIT in international activities.

Candidates must possess a Bachelor’s Degree in International Business, Management, Economics, or a related field. AND Six (6) years of recent professional experience in business development, which includes international business. Preferred Qualifications: 1) A Master’s degree in a related area is preferred. 2) Two (2) years of experience must have involved one or more of the following: supervision of other employees, overseeing and coordinating general operations of a unit, applying rules and regulations, or exercising responsibility for the development of policies or procedures. Equivalent combination of education and experience is acceptable: candidates may substitute additional graduate level education at an accredited college or university at the rate of 30 credit hours on a year-for-year basis for the required general experience; additional experience as defined above can also be substituted on a year for year basis for the required education.
