Assistant Commissioner, Office of Industry Employment Statistics
The Assistant Commissioner for OIES plans, develops, and directs the survey and administrative record-based programs that produce data on industry employment, hours, earnings, job openings, hires, separations, gross job gains, and gross job losses for the Nation and local areas. In this capacity, the incumbent is responsible for the accuracy, relevance, and timeliness of the data and the production, analysis, and release of the data following the calendar of data releases issued by BLS each year.
The incumbent develops long-range plans to ensure that the present and future information needs of policy makers and other user groups are met. This includes planning, proposing, and justifying the resources and monitoring operating budgets and outcomes, including significant information technology projects.
The incumbent reviews and approves reports, analyses, and publications developed in the Office or in other areas of the Bureau. The Assistant Commissioner provides direction to the Office in regard to technical standards, analysis and interpretation of data, and adherence to Bureau policy.
