Competitiveness of the Michigan Construction Industry
Wednesday, October 26, 2016 from 1:30:00 PM to  2:30:00 PM Eastern

The U.S. Census Bureau and the Local Employment Dynamics (LED) Partnership in collaboration with the Council for Community and Economic Research (C2ER), welcomes Dr. Leonidas Murembya as he presents, “Competitiveness of the Michigan Construction Industry.” Dr. Murembya will present an in-depth analysis of the Michigan construction sector’s competitiveness from a labor market perspective. Michigan’s construction jobs dropped by -35 percent between 2000 and 2014. In contrast, nationwide, construction jobs fell by only 10 percent over this same period. Using the new LED Job-to-Job data, he investigates what happened to the individuals that lost their employment in this sector. How many moved to persistent nonemployment? And how many found jobs elsewhere (sectors and states)?

Dr. Leonidas Murembya, Economic Specialist, Michigan Bureau of Labor Market Information and Strategic Initiatives
