Northern Virginia, part of the Washington D.C. metropolitan area, is a national hub for government contracting, cybersecurity, data infrastructure, and other high-tech/emerging technology industries. Despite the region’s highly educated population employers are still facing challenges filling the 48,000 new tech jobs projected to be added by 2032.
In this webinar, Sarah Edwards, Research Associate at the Center for Regional Economic Competitiveness (CREC), discussed her work on the Northern Virginia Talent Pipeline Initiative, a comprehensive mixed-methods analysis addressing technology workforce demand and supply issues in the region. This strategic workforce study engaged 40+ employers, education providers, and government stakeholders across the computer services, emerging technologies, and cybersecurity industries to identify viable career pathways in the region. Key topics include the strategic focus on data infrastructure pathways, addressing “mid-level” talent gaps, and creating scalable training and education solutions.
This webinar was presented as part of C2ER’s professional certification, the Certified Economic Research Professional (CERP). CERP is the industry standard for recognizing excellence in economic research and embodies the applied skills of economic, demographic, industry, and workforce analysis. CERPs undertake rigorous evaluation of their research experience and leadership to earn this designation. Find out more about the CERP program here and see how many points you may have already towards certification.
