2009 C2ER Member Survey Results
Earlier this spring, C2ER conducted its 2009 membership survey. We heard from 199 members for a 39 percent response rate, the highest response rate in the last three years. We are encouraged by our members' attention. Although this year's survey results are similar to the 2008 results, the new survey revealed some new trends in membership characteristics. Some of the highlights are listed here:
- For the first time, members who have been with the organization 2-4 years are the largest category among C2ER members (28 percent). Those members belonging to C2ER for less than 2 years continued to decline, falling from 32 percent to 27 percent between 2006 and 2009.
- The share of "new-to-career" economic development professionals has become the smallest proportion of C2ER membership since 2008, indicating that C2ER has become well recognized by more experienced economic development professionals.
- C2ER members are a professionally diverse group. However, economic development organizations continue to represent the largest share of the members, although the percentage declined between 2006 and 2008 from 32 percent to 23 percent.
- While the Cost of Living Index remains the members' choice as the organization's single most important product or service, C2ERˇ¦s training program has moved up to second position.
- Also, the complete range of C2ER products and services is becoming more important to members. Nine different C2ER products and services were chosen as extremely important by at least 10 percent of the respondents as influencing their decision to join the organization. However, as stated above, the Cost of Living Index remains the biggest influence on membersˇ¦ decision to join C2ER,
- Data Dissemination and Communication as well as Data Collection are the two most common skill sets for C2ER members, used by 81 percent and 80 percent of the respondents respectively.
